Dear GIF Project Participants in North America and Oceania:
As we informed you in the previous announcement dated September 15, representatives from the Japanese GIF Project team and the NCC’s ILL/DD Committee have been in close communication to plan details for future workflows for resource sharing between GIF Project participating libraries from both sides of the Pacific in anticipation of ending the GIF system link enabled by ISO in March 2018.
Below please find some important dates for the GIF service (all dates given below are based on the Japan time):
January 19, 2018: Last day for accepting ILL requests
February 28, 2018: Last day for accepting article copy requests
March 25, 2018: Last day for updating ILL/copy transaction records
April 30, 2018: All payment transactions must be completed manually by this date
Because our library users may still need materials from the former GIF participating libraries, the Japanese GIF Project team and the NCC’s ILL/DD Committee have agreed to conduct a survey with respective GIF member institutions to address their willingness to continue providing ILL and copy services to former GIF member institutions without using OCLC or NACSIS-ILL systems, therefore without using IFM.
We ask each of the current GIF member libraries from North America and Oceania to visit the following site and respond to the survey by November 30, 2017: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3Z69VZW.
The survey results, or a list of libraries that are willing to provide ILL and copy services after GIF ending, will be posted at the NCC’s ILL/DD Committee’s website, hopefully by January 19, 2018.
If you have any questions and concerns regarding GIF Project and post-GIF resource sharing with Japanese libraries, please let us know.
Thank you very much for all your support.
Best regards,
Peter Bae, co-chair, ILL/DD Committee
Toshie Marra, co-chair, ILL/DD Committee
