[ARCHIVED] Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery: Step by Step

Guides to locating and requesting Japanese books and articles held elsewhere, including libraries in Japan.

Introduction

Have you been able to get what you wanted? Or have you had a hard time getting what you wanted?  Acquiring Japanese language resources via ILL/DD can be difficult. This page is to maximize the chance of you being able to identify/obtain the materials you need for your research through Inter Library Loan/Document Delivery Services within North America and from Japan.

Please note though that even if you identify resources by following this process there is a chance you may either not be able to obtain them or be required to accept some restrictions.

•    The library which owns the item you find in CiNii Books or WorldCat may not be willing to lend. (This is usually true of rare items, microfilms and visual materials)
•    Your library may not be able to borrow for a variety of reasons including not being a GIF member.
•    You may be required to use the materials in the library only.
•    There may be no renewal/extension of your ILL requests.
