The ISS library holds information materials related to the following academic fields: law, political science, labor, economics and sociology. The materials include 346,452 books, 7,270 periodical titles, 24,468 reels of microfilm, and 290,000 sheets of microfiche.

How to Use the Facility

Using the Library

Prior to the Visit  Advance Inquiry and Preparation Required

  • Please verify the desired material is available by using UT OPAC.
  • Please consult the ISS library about the availability of information materials by e-mail or Fax. 
  • Library materials request form (図書閲覧願 Tosho etsuran negai ) from your home institution. Please use the following form if the home institution does not have one:
    • Library Materials Request Form (Word,  PDF)

Note: Some materials are restricted. Please make sure to consult with the ISS library.

Upon Arrival:

  • Service Hours: 9:00-12:30 and 13:00-16:30, except for reserve materials (9:00-17:00)
  • Please present some form of personal ID.
  • For requesting additional materials, please fill out material title(s) and call number(s) on (閲覧スリップ Etsuran Slip) and submit at the library counter.


  • Fill out the copy request form (電子複写申込書   Denshi fukusha mōshikomisho) at the counter.

  • Copy Fee: 10 yen

Accessing Special Collections:

For viewing materials with privacy protections, originals, and bunko and special collections:

  • Please request materials in advance by using "特別利用許可願ダウンロード (PDF) Tokubetsu riyō kyoka negai ," available on their webpage.
