Notable Collection(s): 

  • Soseki Collection: The personal collection of the great writer Soseki Natsume (1867-1916), consisting of 3,068 volumes. Many of them are English literature with handwritten notes by Soseki himself. The collection also includes Soseki's diaries, notebooks, exam questions, and some pieces of manuscripts and rough drafts.  For more information, please go to Natsume Soseki Library.

How to Use the Facility

Using the Library

Prior to the Visit:

  • Please read "Services to the Public" (see the link down below).
  • Please verify the desired material is available by using Tohoku University Library OPAC.

Photocopy:

  • Please ask at the library counter

Accessing Rare Materials

Prior to the Visit:

  • Please fill out an "Application for Permission to Browse Rare Books (貴重図書閲覧許可申請書 Kichōtosho etsurankyoka shinseisho).
  • Please obtain a university professor's signature and affix their seal (署名と捺印 Chomei to Natsuin) to the guarantor section (保証人 Hoshōnin) of 貴重図書閲覧許可申請書.
Upon Arrival:
  • Please bring your "Application for Permission."
  • The reading place will be assigned.
  • Please notify the library staff every time leaving the library.
Photocopy:
  • Pictures must be taken with cameras. Please fill out an "Application for Permission to Take and Publish Photographs" on under the "Photographing Rare Books" section (see the link down below).
