Tohoku University: Tohoku University Archives (東北大学史料館)

About the Archives:

The Tohoku University archives was opened in 1963 as (東北大学記念資料室 Tōhoku Daigaku kinen shiryōshitsu),  the first university archives in Japan.  The archives preserves and presents historical documents related to the Tohoku University.

The Tohoku University archives is located at the Katahira Campus.

Notable Collection(s):

• 特定歴史公文書: Historical documents related Tohoku University including documents from the imperial university ear as well as the affiliated institutions such as  Kyusei Daini Koto Gakko (旧制第二高等学校), and Sendai College of Medicine (仙台医学専門学校 Sendai Igaku Senmon Gakko).
• 大学刊行物: Published materials by Tohoku University

• 個人・関連団体等寄贈資料: Documents donated to the archives from the university faculty members and alumni, from both individuals and organizations.

Note: The Guide uses the ALA/LC standard romanization, however, it also reflects a different romanization system used by an individual institution. 

Using the Archives 

Open to the public

 Using designated historical public documents, Tokutei rekishi kōbunsho 特定歴史公文書, require the request form prior to viewing.
