About the Facility:

International Research Institute of Disaster Science, aka IRIDeS at Tohoku University was founded in 2007. It was based on the prediction, which the chance of having a huge earthquake in the Miyagi offshore area in next 30 years was very high. In order to prevent this disaster the university gathered and integrated with experts from 19 faculties, humanities and science related to the study of practical disaster prevention and disaster mitigation as well as a variety of specialized science, engineering, earth science, psychology, information science, economics, medicine, and so on.
