About the Library:
The IER library holds about 132,350 of Japanese and Chinese books (和漢書 Wakansho) and 210,139 of Western books (洋書 Yō-sho). The Library also holds 12,009 of microfilms and 141,576 of microfiche. Most of the library's holdings are related to economics and statistics throughout the world.
The Institute of Economic Research (IER) was founded in 1940 as the Institute of Research on the East Asian Economies at Tokyo University of Commerce. In 1949, the name was changed to Institute of Economic Research. Since its opening, the IER has contributed to the economic research of modern Japan. The following year, 1950, the IER started publishing "The Economic Review." Lately, its activities have expanded to other Asian countries.
