Dear all,

NCC would like to announce our decision to put a temporary hold on nominations for the Digital Resources Committee.

The current Digital Resources Committee (DRC) is a database and digital scholarship liaison and support group for North American libraries and their users. The DRC works to facilitate better digital and electronic access to Japanese information, and wider utilization of digital tools and electronic resources in traditional and digital scholarship on Japan.

For some time now, questions have been raised about the effectiveness of the current structure of the DRC, and there is a general agreement that it would be beneficial to have independent groups to look after 1) issues of digital resources (subscription-based) and 2) issues of digital scholarship / digital humanities.

The NCC Chair will be working with an Advisory Group comprised of former DRC Chairs to:

• Review the current structure to identify the problematic areas to be addressed and provide recommendations for future structure
• Understand the role of the DRC in the past, how much it has evolved and what the needs from this point on are
• Articulate a mandate reflective of those needs

Until a new Digital Resources Committee is officially appointed, we encourage individuals to share their questions or concerns via JpnLibLiaisons listserv or contact the NCC Chair, Fabiano Rocha <fabiano.rocha@utoronto.ca>, who will also consult with the Advisory Group.
