About Nihon University College of Law:
Japan Law School (日本法律学校 Nihon hōritsu gakkō ), the predecessor of Nihon University College of Law and Nihon University itself, were founded on October 4, 1889 by Count Yamada Akiyoshi (山田顕義) and others. Yamada was a disciple of Yoshida Shoin (吉田松陰). Yamada served as the Minister of Justice under the Meiji government. In this position, he studied the legal systems of the U.S.A. and Europe and played an important role in developing Japan’s modern legal system. Yamada founded Nihon Horitsu Gakkō to fulfill a need for education of lawyers and to create a research facility studying legal principles rooted in Japanese history, culture, and traditions.
The College of Law has five Departments: Law, Political Science and Economics, Journalism, Business Law, and Public Policy and Affairs.
