About The National Museum of Modern Art:
Opened in 1952, The National Museum of Modern Art (MOMAT) is the first national art museum. The museum was opened in the former headquarters of Nikkatsu Corporation, under the administration of the Ministry of Education. In 1969, the museum moved to the present location.
MOMAT mainly houses Western-style art, and Japanese paintings, prints, watercolors, drawings, and sculpture dating from the Meiji period through the 20th century.
