About University of the Ryukyus:

The University of the Ryukyus (琉球大学 Ryūkyū daigaku ) is one of Japan's national universities, located in the town of Nishihara on Okinawa Island in Okinawa Prefecture.  The university was founded in 1950 under the auspices of the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands as a territorial university and was first located on the site of the historic Shuri Castle. Between 1975 to 1985, because of the revival of the castle, the university has moved to the present location. 

The University of the Ryukyus has 7 faculties: Law and Letters, Education, Science, Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture and Tourism Sciences and Industrial Management and 11 graduate programs. Among them, "Special Graduate Programs for International Student" is a graduate program specifically designed for the international students.  All lectures are conducted in English.  In addition, the University of Ryukyus is a hosting institute for the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences. This is a joint program with Saga University and Kagoshima University.

The university also has campuses in Nakagusuku and Ginowan.
