About the library:

The Woodward Library, originally the Biomedical Branch Library, was first established in 1952. The Woodward Library itself was built and opened in 1964, and has been expanded and refurbished several times since, including creation of a consortium, called the UBC Life Sciences Libraries, that also includes the Biomedical Branch Library, Eric Hamber Library, and St Paul's Hospital Library.

Summary of Collections

Collection size: As of January 2014 the collection numbered over 200,000 volumes of which only slightly over 200 are in Japanese. The Woodward Library collections focus on supporting primarily the engineering, forestry, health & medicine, land & food systems, and science departments at the University of British Columbia.

Online Resources

Engineering Guides
These guides include research guides and course guides, as well as contact information, on all engineering subjects covered at the University of British Columbia, including biomedical, chemical and biological, civil, clean energy, environmental, and mechanical engineering, as well as subjects such as patents and standards.
Forestry Guides
These guides include research and course guides, as well as contact information, on all forestry subjects covered at the University of British Columbia. These subjects include forest products industry, forestry history and archives, natural resources conservation, and more.
Health & Medicine Guides
These guides include research and course guides on all health & medicine subjects covered at the University of British Columbia. A very wide-ranging list, these subjects include aboriginal health, biochemistry, cardiology, dental hygiene, global health, kinesiology, nursing, ophthalmology, pediatrics, population and public health, and much more.
Land & Food Systems Guides
These guides include research and course guides for all land & food systems subjects covered by the University of British Columbia. These subjects include agriculture, animal science, nutrition, food science, soil science, and sustainability, among others.

How to Use the Facility

Library Access For Visitors
Guests are welcome to visit any library branch and use the library's physical resources. To use public workstations and electronic resources, please register with the library by using the "Sign Up" button on the login screen at the library or registering ahead of time (link on webpage).
Borrowing Privileges for Visitors
For borrowing and ILL privileges, a guest not affiliated with UBC may obtain a "Community Borrower" card. Please apply in person at either the Koerner Library Circulation Desk or Okanagan Library.

Fees and times may vary, so please visit the site for further details and instructions, as well as a full list of privileges and limitations.
Print, Copy, Scan Services
Self-service photocopying and printing is available with a UBC Guest Card photocopy/printing card, which can be obtained at a card machine at any of the branch libraries or circulation desks.

The price of a photocopy or printed page is 7¢ for black and white, or 40¢ for color. A page is defined by the university as one side of a 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.
