Summary of Collection(s)

Notable Collections:

  • The collection consists of documents related to foreign perspectives of Japan at the end of the Edo period. Please ask staff at the counter for viewing.
  • Narasaki Bunko (楢崎文庫): The collection focuses on ukiyo-e, floating world pictures, and related materials, which were donated by Narasaki Muneshige (楢崎宗重), a ukiyo-e researcher. The collection include pamphlets, catalogs, magazines and bulletins (2,420 items).

Note: The Guide uses the ALA/LC standard romanization, however, it also reflects a different romanization system used by an individual institution or collection.

Using the Library

Prior to the Visit:

  • Please verify the desired material is available by using AURORA-OPAC.
  • Letter of Introduction (紹介状 Shōkaijō) from your home institution library. Please use the following form if the home institution does not have one:
    • A letter of Introduction (Word,  PDF)
  • Library materials request form (図書閲覧願 Tosho etsuran negai ) from your home institution. Please use the following form if the home institution does not have one by fax or phone:
    • Library Materials Request Form (Word,  PDF)

Upon Arrival:

  • Please present the letter of Introduction and some form of personal ID.

Photocopy:

  • Photocopy services are provided in accordance with Japanese copyright laws.
