About Shukutoku University Archives:

Shukutoku University Archives was founded in April, 2010 to collect and preserve documents and records about the history of the university as a Maharaya Buddhist academic institution. The archives also holds information materials related to the social welfare history of Japan.  These materials are used for survey and research as well as exhibitions and contribute to the development of the university and the study of social welfare in Japan.

Notable Collection(s):

  • Takase Shinkei Related Materials (高瀬真卿関係資料): Takase founded Japan's second reformatory "Tokyo Reformatory(?)" in 1885.  The collection includes photos, diary, memos, historical fictions written by auto-manuscript and correspondences.
  • Yoshida Kyūichi Related Materials (吉田久一関係資料): Yoshida  taught social welfare and modern Buddhism at Shukutoku Junior College (Shukutoku tankidaigaku 淑徳短期大学), Taisho University (大正大学), Toyo Univeristy (東洋大学)and many more. The collection includes photos, relics, auto-manuscripts, lecture notes, memos, correspondences and published materials.
