About the General Library:

Since 2005, The General Library including Library for Intercultural Studies has been opened to the general public to help engage the community's intellectual interests.

    • Japanese and Chinese: 356,400 volumes
    • Western: 141,320 volumes​​​ 

Note: The Guide uses the ALA/LC standard romanization, however, it also reflects a different romanization system used by an individual institution or collection.


How to Use the Facility

Using the Library

Prior to the Visit:

  • Please verify the desired material is available by using their OPAC.

Upon Arrival:

  • Please follow the necessary procedures at the counter.


  • Photocopy services are provided in accordance with Japanese copyright laws.
  • Self-service Copy Fee:
    • Black: 35 yen
    • Color: 80 yen
  • Please fill out the request form and submit it at the counter.


  • Please apply for a library card (図書館利用証 Tosho riyōshō).

  • Service Hours: Monday-Friday 8:45-17:00

  • To apply for the library card, please bring the following items:

  • Passport or some form of ID that includes your home address.
  • A photo of yourself (3 x 2.4cm).

  • Please fill out the application form (利用証交付申込書 Riyōshō kōfu mōshikomisho) available at the counter.

  • Up to 3 books for 2 weeks

Accessing Closed Stack

  • Please ask at the counter.
