About the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration:

Founded in 1934, the National Archives (NARA) was founded to preserve and maintain the records of the United States government.

Begun in a single building on Pennsylvania Avenue, NARA now has over 40 locations nationwide, including federal records centers, presidential libraries, regional archives, and research centers.
