Founded in 1827 as King's College, the first institution of higher learning in Canada. King's College became the University of Toronto in 1850, when the Church of England handed control of the institution to secular authorities.
The university has three campuses and 44 academic libraries with a total collection size of over 12 million physical volumes in 341 languages.
