Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan was one of the first public universities founded in the United States. Originally located in Detroit, the school was moved in 1837 to its current city of Ann Arbor, which was established in 1824.
The university is regularly ranked as one of the top three public universities in the country, and is well known for its medical and law programs. It is also one of the largest universities in the country.
University of Michigan was also a pioneer in the field or Japanese Studies especially in anthropology and other social sciences.
