Housing Stanford University's primary Asian studies collection, the East Asia Library is now located in the Lathrop Library and contains over 680,000 volumes. The library offers travel grants to assist in using the collections.

Collection size: as of 2014 the East Asian Library at Stanford housed over 680,000 items of which nearly 205,000 are in Japanese. The East Asia Library's collections focus primarily on the humanities and social sciences from all time periods. Western language items are not held by the East Asia Library, but instead are housed in the Green Library.

While the East Asian Library is accessible by the general public, borrowing privileges are limited to those with either a Stanford ID, UC Berkeley ID, or a UC/Stanford Reciprocal Services Program card. Unaffiliated members may gain access to the collections for seven days within a 12-month period for free by filling out the Visitors' Registration Form.
