About the Institute:
The National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, is a part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Found in 1996, it was created as a result of the integration of the Institute of Population Problem and the Social Development Research Institute. Its main task is to investigate population and household trends. In addition, the Institute conducts research concerning social security policies and systems in Japan and abroad.
Compiled population data by the institute contributes to determine Japan's essential policies, including pensions and other social security measures.
