About the Ancient Orient Museum:
The Ancient Orient Museum was opened in 1978. It is the first museum in Japan devoted to the ancient Middle East, or the ancient Orient. Since its opening, the museum has conducted academic research overseas, mainly in Syria, and has exhibited a wide range of archaeological materials.
There is also a library, which opens to members and scholars with permission. School tours for children are also available.
Collection Size:
4,500 items from Western Asia, principally Syria and Egypt, from the stone age to the Sassanid era
Library materials (books and periodicals): Over 20,000 volumes

Extending World: Crafts that traveled Silk Road from West to East and vice versa (including rare cut glass of the Sassanid period
Ancient Iran and Its Neighbor featuring humped cattle shaped earthenware
Ancient Egyptian painted relief
Photographs and artifacts form an excavation in Syria with a replica of an ancient house
Ancient Mesopotamia: including clay nail inscribed with cuneiform
The Earliest Orient: featuring a 6 million years old hand axe
