About the Doshisha Archives Center:
The Doshisha Archives Center collects, maintains and presents information materials, relating to Doshisha University and Joseph Hardy Neesima.
This includes life of Neesima, establishment of Doshisha University. Among the challenges Doshisha faced was the strong opposition of Buddhist institutions to the founding of a Christian school in Kyoto, the sanctuary and residence of many generations of emperors. The History of Doshisha also seems to mirror the challenges faced by Christian missionaries in Japan.
Focus: A variety of Neesima related materials including books, diaries, memos, biographies, memoirs, papers, Doshisha related historical documents, novels, research materials and catalogs.
Note: The Guide uses the ALA/LC standard romanization, however, it also reflects a different romanization system used by an individual institution or collection.
