Begun in 1933 with the acquisition of a 40,000-volume Chinese library, the East Asian Library incorporated a Japanese collection in 1961. The library moved to its current location in 1974, which was then expanded in 1990-1.
For more information on the Japanese collection, please contact Fabiano Rocha at (416) 978-2300 or by email.
For all comments and questions about the Guide, please e-mail us:
Collection size: as of March 2014 the library held approximately 570,000 items, of which nearly 200,000 are in Japanese. This includes both monographs and periodicals.
