About Fusae Ichikawa Center for Women and Governance:

Fusae Ichikawa Center for Women and Governance was named after Ichikawa Fusae (市川房枝) a leading feminist, women's rights activist and politician. She was a leading advocate for Women's Rights to Vote and is often credited with gaining that right for Japanese women in the postwar Japanese Constitution (1945). In 1962, the institution was established under the name "財団法人婦選会館 [Women's Suffrage Foundation (?)]" with Ichikawa as the first board directors.  In 1981, after her passing away, the institution was renamed "財団法人市川房枝記念会 (The Fusae Ichikawa Memorial Association, or FIMA)" to commemorate her life long dedication for women's rights and great achievements.  

In April 2009, FIMA was renamed "Fusae Ichikawa Center for Women and Governance" to further promote equal political rights for all people and to contribute to the creation of peaceful societies.  It became Public Interest Incorporated Foundation in April 2013.
