The history of the University of Arizona Museum of Art dates back to 1924, when the first art exhibit at the university was organized by Professor Katherine Kitt, who was also founder of the Art Department. The building which currently houses the museum was constructed in 1955.

The University of Arizona Museum of Art's collections focus primarily on works dating from the Renaissance through the 20th century. While most works come from Europe and the United States, the collections are global in scale.
A digital database of the collections of the Museum of Art, not all items are accompanied by images or other digital facsimile. The museum also notes that some information may be from old sources as they continue to work on updating the database.
List of exhibitions and available information dating back to 1956, including exhibitions relating to Japan and East Asia from as early as 1978.
Any publication or commercial use of images from the University of Arizona Museum of Art's collections requires written, prior consent from the museum.
