About The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto:

The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (MOMAK) was opened on March 1, 1963 as the Kyoto Annex Museum of The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.  In 1967, the Kyoto Annex Museum officially became The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.  

MOMAK holds artworks and related reference materials of the 20th century Japan and other parts of the world.  The museum also known as supporting artists or artistic movements in Kyoto and the Kansai area including Japanese-style paintings of the Kyoto School.  MOMAK also presents Japanese modern arts and crafts as well as art works  from other countries. 

In addition, MOMAK , incorporated with National Film Center (NFC)  at the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo has made NFC's 60,000 film collection available and shown since 2007.

MOMAK holds Japanese paintings Western paintings, prints, sculpture, crafts (ceramics, textiles, metal works, wood and bamboo works, lacquers and jewelry) and photography from the museum collection. There are also a variety of modern art from Japan and other countries.
