Notable Collection(s)
  • Ruijukoshū (類聚古集): Edited Manyōshū (万葉集) by Fijiwarano Atsutaka (藤原敦隆) in the late Heian period. Poems are reorganized by theme, including season, heaven and earth, landscape, etc. A National Treasure.
  • The first edition of Kaitai shinsho (解体新書): A medical text translated into Japanese during the Edo period. It is based on the Dutch-language translation Ontleedkundige Tafelen, often known in Japan as Tafel Anatomie, Tāheru Anatomia (ターヘル・アナトミア), of Kulmus’ German Anatomische Tabellen. Published in 1774; work by Maeno Ryotaku (前野良沢), Sugita Genpaku (杉田玄白), and Nakagawa Junan (中川 淳庵); illustrations by Odano Naotake (小田野直武) (total of 5 volumes). 
  • Historic materials excavated from Central Asia by the Otani Mission: Count Ōtani Kōzui (大谷 光瑞), 22nd Abbot of the Nishi Honganji sub-sect of Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism in Kyoto, was known as his expeditions to Central Asia.  The Omiya Library holds important historical materials that Ōtani brought back from his expeditions. One of the materials is the Rihakuseki Tokuko (an Important Cultural Property).

Upon Arrival:

  • Please present some form of personal ID.

  • Photocopy services are provided in accordance with Japanese copyright laws.
  • Please purchase copy card (1000 yen) at the co-op.
