About the Craft Gallery:

The National Museum of Modern Art Crafts Gallery was opened in 1977 in the building of the former Headquarters of the Imperial Guards, which was built in 1910.  This old building was restored and opened as MOMAT'S craft section.

Today, the museum houses about 2900 items of various crafts and graphic designs created since the Meiji period.

The museum holds two types of exhibitions; Works from the Collection and Special Exhibits.  Works from the Collection consists of  "A History of Modern Crafts (100 years),"  "Masterpieces" and "various themed exhibits."  Each exhibition displays about 100 items.

The special exhibits, held 2 or 3 times a year, display domestic and international crafts based on a specified theme, or the works of individual artists.

Graphic design exhibitions are usually held at the MOMAT main building.
