About Kawakita Memorial Film Institute:

The origin of the Kawakita Memorial Film Institute dates back to 1960 when  Kawashima Kashiko founded "フィルム・ライブラリー助成協議会 (film library grant council ?)." The council was dedicated to  play Japanese films in France while showing 155 french films in at the Museum of Modern Art.  After Kashiko's husband Nagamasa who also made a great contribution to French- Japanese film world, passed away in 1981, Kashiko founded the Kawakita Memorial Film Institute in 1982.  

The facility  preserves and uses films and the related documents.  The facility also engages in building the relationship with other countries as well as gives award individuals who contributed to the film industry. 

The facility holds magazines related to film, monographs, still photos, press sheet and posters. The most of holding materials, however, stored in its repository in Kamakura.  These materials will be available for access in the future.
