In response to the challenges and obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing importance of digital tools for access to Japanese material, NCC’s Comprehensive Digitization and Discoverability Program Task Force (CDDP) is collaborating with institutions and scholars to release a video series highlighting digital resources for teaching, learning, and research. Created with funding support from Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO), the CDDP Video Series offers instructional videos on freely available resources and cutting-edge projects related to Japanese Studies, highlighting useful tools and best practices. The Art Research Center (ARC), part of Ritsumeikan University, is a leading hub for digital humanities research in Japanese art and culture. Since 2019, the ARC has been designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) as an international joint digital archiving center for Japanese Art and Culture, also known as ARC-iJAC.
The Early Japanese Books Portal Database, operated by ARC, is one of the largest of its kind worldwide. It boasts an ARC kuzushiji (calligraphy) transcription support system with AI-enable function to read kuzushiji. Enjoy the ease of adding ruby glosses on either side of characters as well!
