The Goodson Law Library was redesigned in 2008 to meet the 21st century information needs of the Duke University Law School community. This includes spaces for studying in groups or alone, media, technology, and providing access to the library's collection.

Collection size: as of March 2014 the law library had nearly 200,000 items of which only about 400 are in Japanese. The Goodson Law Library collections are primarily focused on Anglo-American law, with growing European and Asian law collections.

Use of the Goodson Law Library by the anyone not affiliated with the Duke University community is limited to specific hours. The Duke University Law School community has 24-hour access.
Borrowing privileges from the Goodson Library collections is restricted to: Duke faculty, staff, and students; faculty, staff, and students of the Triangle Research Library Network; law faculty research assistants; and campus borrower card holders. Campus borrower cards may be purchased for an annual fee of $100. Campus borrower card holders may also purchase a community access card to allow 24-hour access to the Goodson Law Library. These cards may be purchased at the DukeCard office.
