LPDWG Mission Statement

The Librarian Professional Development Working Group (LPDWG) is an affiliated group, which succeeded the Librarian Professional Development Committee (LPDC) of the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC)

Mission: The LPDWG coordinates continuing education and professional development activities for Japanese and East Asian studies librarians who serve faculty, students, and other researchers in the field of Japanese Studies. The following outlines are the charges of the LPDWG to:

1. Serve as a point of communication on professional development needs in consultation with the NCC and other relevant groups such as CEAL that may offer professional training to librarians.

2. Serve as a screening committee for applications to Japanese Studies related workshops and other training programs, such as JSIST in the past, upon request from the organizers.

3. Solicit feedback regarding the professional development needs of Japanese and East Asian studies librarians who serve faculty, students, and other researchers in the Japan field and make recommendations to NCC for developing future projects.

4. Serve as an information clearinghouse to help individual librarians in their professional development in Japanese studies librarianship and advice on individual mentoring needs, coordinating with other existing groups.
