About the Museum:

The Showa Era Lifestyle Museum (昭和日常博物館 Shōwa nichijō hakubutsukan, also known as 歴史民俗資料館 Rekishi minzoku shiryōkan) was opened in 1990. Its real name is Kita Nagoya city Rekishi Minzoku Shiryokan (museum of history and folk-lore), however, the name, "the Showa Era Lifestyle Museum" is used to attract the public visitors. The museum is managed by the Kita Nagoya city. The Showa Era Life Style Museum exhibits daily objects, such as Television, refrigerator, washing machine, etc, from the Showa era, which make many visitors feel nostalgic.

The museum is located on the third floor of the East Public Library building.

About the Reminiscence Method used in the Museum

The reminiscence program adopted by the Showa Era Lifestyle Museum is unique in the way in which it stimulates the minds of participants to feel nostalgic as they remember experiences from earlier in their lives by completing certain actions or interacting with certain items. It can be also be very effectively used to foster and deepen cross-cultural understanding. This means in practice the museum can help groups of people, such as foreigners, to form a meaningful and personal connection even though they may not relate to a specific period in Japanese history.
