About Nara National Research Institutes for Cutural Properties:

Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, also known as Nabunken was founded in 1952 as part of the National Commission for Protection of Cultural Properties. The institution started with four divisions General Affair's Division as well as Historical Research Division, Architecture Research Division and Art Research Division.

Further more,  the Division of Heijo Palace Investigation was formed in 1963 in order to protect the Heijo Palace. The Division of the Asuka/ Fujiwara Palace was established in 1973. the Asuka Historical Museum was opened in 1975.

In 2001, Nabunken integrated with National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo and became an independent administrative institution.
